What’s new: Cracks, a New Comic Series

Robomeks has a new buddy now: Cracks. This new webcomic series will be published starting in the same week as Robomeks will (that’s the 17th one) and will be out on Tuesdays and Thursdays, giving you a complete week of updates for your very own glee.
What’s Cracks about
A series of particularly gruesome assassinations have been happening lately in New Deimos. Buckshot and Pox, a couple of messy and violent cops, will be recruited by a new police division to take charge of the investigation of those crimes. Soon they’ll discover that the killer isn’t like anything they’ve dealt with before.
While it has its own story arc I’m planning to deviate from it whenever I feel like. Also, forget about definitive answers. There’ll be some, but most of them will never have a reasonable one, only some cause/effect relations. We’ll be dealing with weird, unexplained stuff here. So, how answers, not why ones, and a bunch of question marks.
Structurally, I’ll try to make it as episodic as possible, aiming for one page scenes or gags whenever possible, although I’ll take my time with the action sequences. Anyhow, the structure of this series will be extremely flexible.
Characters

You can find more information about them in the characters section.
Parental Advisory: Explicit Content
You’ll notice that both Robomeks and Cracks have an indicative rating now in their respective homepages (PG for the former and R for the latter). That’s there for a reason.
Cracks will feature explicit violence (that’s gore and blood), swearing, scary moments, drugs use… and whatever I feel like at the moment. In most countries that means No Kids Allowed.
I just wanted to give this warning because there’s a high chance that some youngsters are already reading Robomeks and may be tempted to give Cracks a try. So, if your kids are reading RM better read this new series yourself first, so you can form an educated opinion about if it’s safe or not for them. Also, if you are under 17 (or whatever the legal age is that makes you not a child anymore in your country), please take all this into consideration.
OK, OK, I’m making it sound worse than really is. But better be safe than sorry, etc, etc.
Tone
Apart from all that stuff I mentioned above, Cracks will mostly be an action story with high doses of dark humor. We’re going to follow the main cop couple in their particular weird, scary and bloody journey and, while it’ll start somewhat slow, once it reaches cruiser speed it’ll keep accelerating. You’ll also notice some Philip K. Dick, Lovecraft and videogamey scent in all this, and for good reason.
But let me stress that, while dark and somewhat unhealthy in tone, it’ll contain enough humor to be digestible for most tastes. As long as you like the darkest side of the spectrum.
Why this one?
I decided to unleash this project among the dozen I keep in a cage because I decided to publish them chronologically. This project was conceptualized in the same time period as Robomeks was (around 97, but it’s probably a bit older than RM in fact) and, if I was ever to publish more series, I thought it’d be better to go from older to newest. So, here it is.
English Only
There won’t be a Spanish version for this series this time around. I can’t afford the time needed to produce and maintain a localization of this series other than English. There’s also the readership question.
The amount of readers that follow Robomeks in Spanish is around 1%. Yep, just one. That’s partially my fault, as I’ve made no effort to publicize Robomeks in the spanish community, and partially because the webcomic world itself is underdeveloped or inexistent in most countries where Spanish is the main language. To be honest, the Spanish version was there just because, and to allow friends and family to follow the series. Así que, ¡a desenpolvar el Collins, gente!
Schedule and URLs
- Publishing days: Tuesdays & Thursdays
- Comic URL: http://catolate.com/cracks or http://crackscomic.com
- RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/crackscomic
I’m considering the alternative of a three days update schedule, just in case I can’t keep up with the new one, where Robomeks would be published on Monday and Wednesday and Cracks on Fridays. That would allow me to update both series while giving Robomeks the priority it deserves. But so far that’s just thinking aloud. Right now you’ll have updates every day.
I hope you enjoy it!
