There’s a lot of novelties here:

• New page size: About a third bigger than before. Because bigger is better.
• New lettering: I’m using a new font now (for several reasons) and, while its size looks equal to the old pages, it’s in fact smaller (it’s just that the page is bigger now). This should help in those scenes with a lot of text, like this one. I’ll also try to follow professional lettering rules as closest as possible. The drawback (and can be a huge one) is that lettering becomes now even more time consuming, as now it’s not only the stuff Obsessive-Compulsive people dreams are made of, but I have to repeat all the steps twice (both for English and Spanish), and, let met tell you, that’s no fun. And, finally, balloons won’t be border-less anymore. That, while cool, added some unneeded confusion for you, reader, and a few headaches for me, as sometimes it was hard to make them stand out completely, depending on the background color.
• New art style: From now on I won’t ink the pages. That saves me about one hour per page. Less time per page increases the survivability of Robomeks in the long term. And, with the color, its absence is hardly noticeable.
• No ink and pencil thumbnails: There’s no ink from now on, anyway. The old ones are still archived and will be available in a separated gallery section once the new site design is finished.

Robomeks as a whole is in another transitional state right now. As you can see, the actual website design isn’t ready for the new comic page size. I’m finishing the new design, so it should be ready in a few days. This new design will be optimized for screen resolutions of 1280×800 and bigger (which about 70% of readers already have), and should still be usable in resolutions as small as 1024×768. There’s also the problem with the old, smaller, pages. I’ve opted to increase their size artificially to make them fit the new page size, so they look blurry right now. As I’m also about to start the conversion and revision process of all the pages for the upcoming printed version of part 01, I’ll use that to also update their jpgs (that I use here in the site) to the new size, so the blurriness will disappear gradually. (ed: they’re still shown in their normal size by now)

I stated in the page before that I was planning a series of short stories about secondary things while I finish the gazillion (and I mean it) things I have to do in a very short span of time. Well, this doesn’t apply anymore. What you’re starting to read in this page is “Catolate” (that’s the name of this part). Catolate was written and storyboarded about a year now, and it was part of the original division by chapters from volume 00 (this was in fact chapter 4). My initial plan was to merge it in the part 02 of this volume (the part I said I was postponing). In the treatment, Catolate happened after a few scenes that dealt with other issues. Now, those scenes will happen after this. This change shouldn’t have a dramatic impact in the whole story. The only problem that may arise is fitting now the chain of events in the time span I set until the climax of the main story arc, which is two days. If that turns out to be problematic I’ll be forced to go back and change the dialog to a bigger time span (probably to “a few days”). But so far I think that won’t be needed.

To fit Catolate in this new story structure I’ve also had to modify a few things, like the dialog in the ubercast you see in this page, and some other scenes later on. But, what you’re reading is the original story in essence which, by the way, I think is quite entertaining and funny. Not to mention that it’ll only last for about 24 pages (may change, as I’m still retouching its ending). Have fun!

Hay un montón de novedades aquí:

• Nuevo tamaño de página: Alrededor de un tercio más grande que antes. Porque más grande es mejor.
• Nueva rotulación: Estoy usando una nueva fuente ahora (por varias razones) y, aunque su tamaño parece similar al de las viejas páginas, es de hecho más pequeño (es sólo que la página es más grande ahora). Esto debería ayudar en esas escenas con un montón de texto, como esta. También intentaré seguir las reglas de rotulación profesional tan de cerca como me sea posible. El problema (y puede ser uno enorme) es que la rotulación consume ahora incluso más tiempo, ya que ahora no es tan sólo la esencia de la que están hechos los sueños de los Obsesivos-Compulsivos, sino que tengo que repetir cada paso dos veces (para el Inglés y el Español), y, déjame decirte, no es divertido. Y, finalmente, los bocadillos ya no serán sin borde. Eso, aunque molaba, añadía algo de innecesaria confusión a ti, lector, y unos cuantos dolores de cabeza a mi, ya que algunas veces era difícil hacerlos resaltar dependiendo del color de fondo.
• Nuevo estilo artístico: Desde ahora no entintaré las páginas. Eso me ahorra cerca de una hora por página. Menos tiempo por página aumenta las posibilidades de supervivencia de Robomeks a largo plazo. Y, con el color, su ausencia apenas se nota.
• No más miniaturas de la tinta y el lápiz: A partir de ahora no hay entintado, de todos modos. Los antiguos están todavía archivados y se mostrarán en una sección de galería aparte una vez que el nuevo diseño del sitio esté acabado.

Robomeks en su conjunto está en un estado de transición justo ahora. Como puedes ver, el diseño actual del sitio web no está preparado para el nuevo tamaño de página. Estoy acabando el nuevo diseño, así que debería estar listo en unos pocos días. Este nuevo diseño estará optimizado para resoluciones de pantalla de 1280×800 y más grandes (que alrededor de un 70% de los lectores ya tienen), y debería ser todavía usable con resoluciones tan pequeñas como 1024×768. Existe todavía el problema con las páginas antiguas, más pequeñas. He optado por aumentar artificialmente su tamañpo para ajustarlas al nuevo tamaño de página, así que ahora aparecen algo borrosas. Como también estoy a punto de empezar el proceso de revisión y conversión de las páginas para la versión impresa de la parte 01 que está por venir, también usaré eso para actualizar sus jpg (que uso en este sitio) al nuevo tamaño, así que las borrosas irán desapareciendo gradualmente. Manifesté en la página anterior que estaba planeando una serie de historias cortas acerca de cosas secundarias mientras finalizo el montonzao (y lo digo en serio) de cosas que tengo que hacer en un muy corto espacio de tiempo. Bueno, esto ya no es aplicable. Lo que estás empezando a leer en esta página es “Catolate” (ese es el nombre de esta parte). Catolate fue escrito y el story-board fue realizado hace alrededor de un año, y formaba parte de la división original por capítulos del volúmen 00 (este era de hecho el capítulo 4). Mi plan inicial era combinarlo con la parte 02 de este volúmen (la parte que dije que postponía). En el tratamiento, Catolate ocurría tras unas cuantas escenas que trataban de otros temas. Ahora, esas escenas ocurrirán después. Este cambio no debería impactar dramáticamente la historia en su conjunto. El único problema que puede aparecer es al hacer caber ahora la cadena de eventos en el espacio de tiempo que establecí hasta el climax del arco argumental principal, que son dos días. Si eso acaba siendo problemático me veré forzado a volver atrás y cambiar el diálogo a un espacio de tiempo mayor (probablemente a “unos pocos días”). Pero de momento eso no será necesario.

Para introducir Catolate en la nueva estructura de la historia también he tenido que modificar algunas cosas, como el díalogo en el ubercast que ves en esta página, y algunas otras escenas más tarde. Pero, lo que estás leyendo es la historia original en esencia que, por cierto, creo que es bastante entretenida y divertida. Por no mencionar que sólo durará alrededor de 24 páginas (puede cambiar, ya que todavía estoy retocando su final). ¡Que te diviertas!
